Cuphead + Dark Souls = Cupsouls
Studio MDHR’s Cuphead released on September 29th to virtually universal acclaim, and drew almost immediate comparisons to Dark Souls, one this generations most belovedly difficult franchises. Seems like an odd comparison to make, when the games have next-to-nothing in common outside of their unforgiving, and at times rage inducing, difficulty. Drastic differences aside, that didn’t stop talented digital artists from creating their own Cuphead/Dark Souls mashups. Here are some of the highlights:
Retro-Souls: Ornstein and Smough
“Originally meant as an inktober piece I did on October 12th (and to indulge the animation student within me), with all the Cup-Souls jokes going round the net, thought it’d be fun to do Ornstein and Smough in the 1930s artstyle.”

Cupsouls: Firelinke Shrine
A hilarious ode to the infamous video of the “gaming” journalist struggling mightily with Cuphead’s tutorial.

Cupsouls: Prepare to Deal With the Devil! (animation)
A very cool clip of a Dark Souls Knight animated in a similar retro style to that of Cuphead.

And for a bonus (and possibly saving the best for last), we’ve got a Cuphead/Bloodborne mashup…
Bloodcup
A gorgeous blend of Cuphead and Dark Souls’ spiritual successor Bloodborne.

Brilliant work all around, and something tells me this is just the beginning of clever Cuphead fan-arts and mashups coming our way.
